History

The story of Hashtil Nursery (Tidhar) begins long before the opening of the nursery now known to the Israeli public.

Before the establishment of the nursery, the area of the nursery was the Saida family farm where Meir and Yohanan Saida were growing vegetables along with their parents Judah and Haviva Saida.

With the release of Meir from the army, the two brothers joined and established the nursery that was first called "Saida Brothers Partnership" on the family farmlands. Starting with only 1 acre, the nursery gave a response to the demands of many farmers who wanted to enjoy the benefits of the planting that was still uncommon in this region of the country.

The nursery started in small quantities – using manual seeding methods and no delivery services.

With quality comes success and the demand for healthy and sustainable seedlings that was uncommon in this region increased over the supply. And so the nursery expanded its area and bought more farms in the settlements to provide area for building more greenhouses. Afterwards, the nursery began offering delivery services to the local farmers that soon was expanded to all over the country.

Despite of its size and high volume of activity, the nursery remembers its past as a small farm and knows how to provide small farmers with small volume orders the same service and quality just like large farmers receive.

Over the years the nursery has undergone many changes, which shows an example of an agricultural farm that grows and expands along with the changes and developments in the Israeli agriculture.
From the manual sowing period with one small greenhouse without delivery services – to the vibrant reservation center with competitive production rate.
Following the growth in the demand and the big success, the nursery expanded its greenhouse area from 1 acre to 20 acre.
The workforce of the nursery which was mainly based on Arab workers from Gaza strip, significantly increased and replaced with foreign workers from Thailand.
Today, the nursery employs about 80 workers – mostly Israelis and the rest are Thai workers.
Hashtil Nursery Ltd. was the first nursery in Israel to offer delivery services that have evolved dramatically since the age of self-pickup:
In the beginning the plants were sent inside plastic bins covered with nylon bags, today, all the plants are delivered inside their original propagation trays that sit in metal cages equipped with industrial turning wheels.
These trays and cages – which are a unique development of the nursery – allow a comfortable discharge at any field and every weather condition, while keeping the plants quality and durability from the discharge until planting time.
